Open House: Hazelhurst Court

Open House London is the world’s largest architecture festival, giving free public access to 800+ buildings, walks, talks and tours over one weekend in September each year.
We recommend visiting Hazelhurst Court, an award-winning development by Phoenix Community Housing of 60 extra care apartments for older people.
With funding from the Mayor of London and Lewisham Council, the homes are for affordable rent and built next to their existing properties. These new homes allow older people to live independently in secure and comfortable accommodation, within their communities and established networks of friends, family and neighbours. The scheme also incorporates communal areas, including a kitchen and dining area, garden room and lounge area and a shared courtyard.
Phoenix Community Housing is a not-for-profit resident-led housing association based in South London. They own and manage more than 6,000 homes in Lewisham and are now starting to build their first new homes.
Designed by Levitt Bernstein, the scheme has won awards at the Housing Design Awards 2018 and RIBA London Awards 2018.
